Raila Odinga to Address Nation on Political Future Next Week

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Opposition leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will address the nation next week regarding his next political move following his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Odinga, who lost in the just-concluded elections in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has already begun a series of consultative meetings with key stakeholders.

On Tuesday, he kicked off engagements in Kisumu, where he met Luo Council of Elders in a closed-door session attended by representatives from Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya counties.

Later in the afternoon, the former prime minister held another private meeting with youth leaders at Kisumu City Hall, which lasted nearly two hours.

Speaking to the press afterward, he emphasized that these engagements would extend to other regions, including Western, Coast, Central, North Eastern, and Rift Valley, as he maps out his next steps.

Odinga also reflected on his experience in the AUC race, stating that he has now moved on from the outcome.

His return to the country on Monday was followed by a meeting with President William Ruto at the Coast, where Ruto indicated that his administration would collaborate with Odinga to advance the government’s development agenda.
