NAIROBI, Kenya – The final push is on. Kenya has deployed its political heavyweights to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson race climaxes.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi leads the charge, rallying support for Raila Odinga’s bid in a high-stakes diplomatic showdown.
With a delegation of over 100 MPs and government officials backing him, Kenya is pulling out all the stops to secure a win.
I arrived safely in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the African Union (AU) Summit, a landmark event where Kenya has presented a candidate for AUC Chairperson. As we approach the final stretch, I will engage in the last-mile campaign for Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga, rallying support from…
Winning the AUC Chairperson seat isn’t just about prestige—it’s about power.
A Raila-led AU would place Kenya at the core of continental decision-making, amplifying the country’s voice on trade, infrastructure, and economic policy.
Raila aims to close Africa’s infrastructure gap, deepening regional integration, and boosting economic transformation through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
But that’s not all—his leadership would also push for financial independence, agricultural innovation, climate action, and stronger peace and security frameworks.
Mudavadi’s Packed Addis Agenda
Beyond lobbying for Raila, Mudavadi is attending the 46th AU Executive Council Session (February 12-14), where foreign ministers from across Africa will vote for AUC Commissioners.
This meeting sets the stage for the 38th AU Heads of State and Government Summit, themed “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.”
President William Ruto is expected to attend, reinforcing Kenya’s diplomatic offensive.
On the sidelines, Mudavadi is engaging in key discussions on ending violence against women and girls, malaria eradication, and immunization—three critical issues shaping Africa’s health and development agenda.
He will also stand beside President Ruto when Kenya leads the Committee of African Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) and presents a progress report on AU Institutional Reforms.
With voting just days away, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Kenya is in full campaign mode, leveraging diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and sheer political will to get Raila over the finish line.
