Rozinah Mwakideu, the sister to media personality Alex Mwakideu, has opened up publicly about her short-lived marriage to city pastor and motivational speaker Robert Burale, describing it as one of the darkest periods of her life.

In a candid sit-down on Alex Mwakideu TV, Rozinah revisited details of the relationship that ended nearly a decade ago, offering her side of a story that has long been the subject of speculation. The interview shed light on why the union, which lasted just a year and two days, collapsed despite initially appearing picture-perfect.

Speaking openly with her brother, Rozinah described marrying Burale as “the biggest mistake of my life,” saying the marriage quickly became emotionally draining and financially unstable. She revealed that soon after their wedding, she began receiving calls from people claiming Burale owed them money.

“It reached a point where people would call me asking to be paid debts I knew nothing about,” she said. “I was confused and embarrassed. I thought marriage was supposed to bring peace, not fear of who might call next.”

Rozinah claimed that financial tension began early. Just days after meeting Burale, she said he asked her for KSh 250,000, allegedly to resolve an estate-related issue. She added that this incident was one of several red flags she ignored at the time.

One of the most startling revelations came when Rozinah claimed that during their honeymoon in South Africa, the couple never consumated the marriage. She attributed this to a vow of celibacy that Burale maintained even after they were married.

“We went to South Africa for our honeymoon, but nothing happened,” she said. “I thought maybe it was just for that trip, but it continued when we got back home. I kept wondering whether something was wrong with me.”

She further alleged that their honeymoon trip had been sponsored by another woman, someone she later discovered had a close connection to Burale. “Imagine finding out another woman paid for your honeymoon,” she said. “That’s when I realized things were not adding up.”

Rozinah told her brother that she tried to walk away twice before finally ending the marriage. She said she stayed longer than she should have because she believed in prayer and forgiveness but eventually realized that she was losing herself in the process.

“I didn’t want to be a divorcee,” she explained. “I thought marriage was about patience and faith. But there comes a point where you must choose peace over pretense.”

She added that the experience left her deeply affected, describing that period as “emotionally exhausting and spiritually confusing.”

Robert Burale, a well-known preacher and motivational speaker, has in the past maintained that he still respects his ex-wife. In a separate interview on Alex Mwakideu TV earlier, he described Rozinah as a “great woman of God” and said there was no infidelity or violence involved in their breakup.

“Sometimes two good people just don’t work out,” he said at the time. “I will never speak ill of her; she is a respectable woman.”

Burale’s calm and measured response drew praise from some fans, but Rozinah’s new revelations have reignited debate over the private struggles behind their short-lived union.

Despite the painful memories, Rozinah emphasized that she has moved on and is now focused on healing and personal growth. She said the experience taught her the importance of self-respect and discernment in relationships.

“I don’t regret getting married — I regret ignoring my instincts,” she reflected. “Now I know what peace looks like, and I’m not willing to lose it again.”

She also said she chose to speak now because she wanted to free herself from old emotional baggage and help others who might be going through similar situations.
