NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto says construction of the 170-kilometre dualling of the Rironi–Naivasha–Mau Summit road will begin on November 28, 2025, marking a major milestone for a critical segment of the Northern Corridor linking Nairobi to Western Kenya.
On the same day, the government will also break ground for a 58 km stretch of highway between Rironi, Maai Mahiu, and Naivasha, a project that is expected to open new trade and mobility frontiers in the southern part of the country.
The works will be carried out by China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), following a meeting between Ruto and CCCC President Zhang Bingman at State House, Nairobi.
Ruto said the contracts reflect the deep infrastructure ties between Kenya and China, pointing to past flagship joint projects like the Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Expressway, and other major constructions.
He added that more Chinese-backed infrastructure is in the pipeline, including a railway extension to Kisumu and Malaba, the Galana Dam, and a range of sports cities and arenas.

According to the President, the dualling project will help reduce severe traffic congestion, cut travel time, and improve safety on a road that has long been plagued by gridlock and frequent accidents.
