Ruto Nominates New Registrar of Political Parties, KNCHR Chair

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has forwarded to Parliament three high-profile nominations, including the Registrar and Assistant Registrar of Political Parties, as well as the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

In a statement on Friday, State House announced that John Cox Lorionokou has been picked as Registrar of Political Parties, while Agatha Wanjiku Wahome is set to serve as Assistant Registrar.

The appointments follow recommendations by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Separately, the Head of State has nominated Claris Awour Onganga as KNCHR chairperson, acting on advice from a selection panel appointed through a Kenya Gazette notice issued in April 2025.

Ruto has formally transmitted the names to the National Assembly for vetting and approval as required by law.

The nominations, if approved, will see Lorionokou and Wahome oversee the regulation and registration of political parties, while Onganga will take over leadership of the country’s top human rights watchdog.
