NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has made new appointments to several key state agencies in a fresh shake-up of parastatal boards, according to the latest Kenya Gazette notice.
Former Kericho Deputy Governor Lily Ng’ok has been moved from her role as chair of the Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) and appointed as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA). Her three-year term takes effect on May 16, 2025.
Ng’ok has swapped roles with Slyvanus Maritim, who now takes over as Chairperson of KIE for a similar three-year term starting on the same date.
Maritim, a seasoned telecommunications engineer, had served as ICTA chair since February 2023.
President Ruto first appointed Ng’ok to KIE in February last year as part of a wide-ranging overhaul of state corporations that removed several allies of his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
In another high-level appointment, Prof. Lawrence Gumbe of the University of Nairobi has been named Non-Executive Chairperson of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency. He will serve a four-year term beginning May 16.
These appointments form part of Ruto’s ongoing effort to restructure state agencies for improved governance and performance.
With terms stretching beyond 2027, the changes could shape the leadership of key parastatals well into the next administration.
