SHA Unveils Joint Plan with Providers to Sustain Healthcare Services in Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Social Health Authority (SHA) has entered into fresh agreements with healthcare providers aimed at stabilizing service delivery and securing the future of universal health coverage in Kenya.

In a high-level meeting held Tuesday and chaired by SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed, representatives from the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) agreed on measures to strengthen partnerships, streamline payments, and combat systemic challenges facing the sector.

“The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships, resolving systemic challenges, and ensuring stable healthcare financing,” SHA said in a statement.

Among the key outcomes was a commitment to sustain the public officers’ payment scheme, foster timely dialogue between stakeholders, and create new working arrangements to address emerging challenges in real time.

The Authority also promised to continue liaising with healthcare federations to resolve provider-specific concerns while honoring contracts with individual hospitals and facilities.

In a significant move, SHA announced plans to launch a joint initiative with health providers to curb fraud within the healthcare system.

The program will build on the anti-fraud framework already in place through the Ministry of Health and insurance companies.

“Recognizing the crucial role that healthcare providers play in this effort, the initiative will leverage the existing anti-fraud framework,” the Authority said.

SHA maintained that the partnerships mark an important step toward building a sustainable and transparent health system that guarantees uninterrupted care for Kenyans.

“By working hand-in-hand, SHA and healthcare providers are building a resilient, responsive, and equitable healthcare system that serves all Kenyans without interruption,” Dr. Mohamed said.

The renewed collaboration comes as Kenya continues to push forward with its universal health coverage agenda, a key pillar of national healthcare reform.
