NAIROBI, Kenya — A multi-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday, January 2, in Nairobi’s South C estate, sparking panic among residents and passersby and prompting a swift multi-agency emergency response.
The structure came down in the daytime, sending plumes of dust into the air and scattering debris across nearby streets.
Witnesses said the collapse caused confusion in the area, with residents and traders fleeing as fears grew that workers or pedestrians could be trapped beneath the rubble.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the incident.
The Kenya Red Cross Society said it immediately deployed a multi-agency response team to manage the situation, conduct search-and-rescue operations and secure the site to prevent further danger to the public.
“A multi-agency response team has been deployed to manage the crisis, conduct search and rescue, and secure the area,” the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.
