BARINGO, Kenya – Two people were killed and two others injured after suspected bandits ambushed a convoy of traders on the Marigat-Loruk road in Baringo County on Monday.

The victims, who were on their way to Nginyang market, were attacked as they traveled under police escort, with two lorries targeted in the assault.

In the incident, the driver of one lorry attempted to escape on foot after witnessing the ambush of the vehicle ahead.

However, he was shot and killed instantly by the assailants, while another victim later succumbed to gunshot wounds in the hospital.

The Marigat-Loruk road has become notorious for bandit activity, and locals have reported an increase in insecurity along this route.

Police have been providing escorts for vehicles in the area to safeguard residents and travelers.

The ambush has escalated tensions in the region, prompting local authorities to deploy additional security personnel to prevent further violence.

The bodies of the two victims were taken to Baringo County hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Baringo, with bandits now increasingly targeting commercial routes, putting the lives of traders and travellers at risk.
