Uhuru Kenyatta, Fred Matiang’i Reunite at Jubilee Delegates Conference

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday made a rare public appearance as he attended the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse.

Uhuru, who has largely kept out of the political spotlight since leaving office in 2022, arrived in a black Toyota Land Cruiser and was received by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, with whom he exchanged a warm handshake.

The two were later joined by Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and other senior officials, who ushered the former head of state into the venue.

Delegates turned out in the party’s signature red, filling the grounds in anticipation of Uhuru’s speech.

The conference comes after years of wrangling within the party, sparked by attempts from a faction led by nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA legislator Kanini Kega to wrest control of the outfit.

The divisions had raised questions about Jubilee’s relevance and survival ahead of the 2027 General Election.

All eyes are now on Uhuru’s address, where he is expected to chart the party’s future direction and rally members around a unified agenda.

Attention has also turned to Dr. Matiang’i, who has resurfaced in recent months through a nationwide listening tour and was involved in pre-NDC consultations with former MPs.

His presence has fueled speculation that he could play a significant role in Jubilee’s revival.

Kioni earlier described the engagement with Matiang’i as a show of renewal and solidarity.

“This gathering is more than preparation; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to unity, renewal, and a politics defined by purpose. Jubilee’s story is still being written, and together we move,” he said in a statement.

The NDC is expected to set the tone for Jubilee’s comeback strategy as it seeks to reassert itself in Kenya’s shifting political landscape.
