NAIROBI, Kenya – Austin Odhiambo etched his name into Kenyan football history on Sunday after scoring the decisive goal in Harambee Stars’ 1–0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the opening match of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium.
The Gor Mahia midfielder struck just before halftime with a low, driven shot that beat the Congolese goalkeeper and sent the packed stadium into a frenzy.
His goal not only secured all three points for Kenya but also lifted national morale, with leaders and fans hailing the victory as a sign of the country’s football revival.
Odhiambo’s performance was a commanding display of composure, creativity, and technical brilliance — qualities that have earned the 24-year-old the nickname “Rolls-Royce” among fans and commentators.

Born on December 16, 1999, in Siaya County, Odhiambo began his career at AFC Leopards before switching to Gor Mahia in October 2021.
Since then, he has become one of the standout players in the Kenyan Premier League.
In July 2024, he was crowned Most Valuable Player at the FKF Premier League Gala, capping off a stellar 2023–24 season.
That same year, he made his senior debut for the Harambee Stars and scored during the COSAFA Cup, underlining his rise on the international stage.
Known for his sharp vision, precise dribbling, and ability to dictate play from midfield, Odhiambo has quickly become a central figure in coach Engin Firat’s plans for the national team.
As Kenya eyes further progress in CHAN, supporters are looking to Odhiambo to continue pulling the strings in midfield and deliver the moments of magic that could carry Harambee Stars deep into the tournament.
Odhiambo’s emergence marks a promising chapter for Kenyan football — one that fans hope will extend beyond CHAN and into continental and global success.
