HELB loan applications, scholarships, and bursaries for students are done online through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal. Students enrolling in universities starting from the academic year 2023/2024 can access government scholarships and loans.
Scholarships and grants are given to a student based on their financial circumstances.
When applying for the first time, applicants should follow the following process;
- Visit the HELB website hef.co.ke and create an account to register.
- After creating an account, log in and select the appropriate Undergraduate First Time Loan Application Form (LAF).
- View the videos or read the literature on financial literacy and participate in the brief exercise online.
- Access and fill out the application form.
- Print Two copies of the duly filled Loan Application Form (Mandatory).
- Ensure the two forms are filled, signed, and stamped correctly by the relevant authorities.
- Attach all supporting documents required and present one copy of the Loan Application forms at the nearest Huduma Centre or HELB Student Service Centre on Mezzanine 1, Anniversary Towers, University Way, Nairobi.
- Ensure you retain the second copy of the Loan Application Form. (Mandatory)
When applying for the loan for the first time, you need the following;
- A copy of your national ID card.
- Copies of your parents’ national ID cards or death certificate where the parent is deceased.
- Copies of both guarantors’ national ID cards.
- A copy of your admission letter and KCSE result slip/certificate.
- A copy of your bank ATM or Bank card if you are a government-sponsored student.
- A copy of your Smart Card from the institution.
- One recent colored passport-size photograph of the applicant.
