Serie A Confirms Postponement of Easter Monday’s Fixtures After Pope Francis’ Demise

Date:

ROME, Italy – In a gesture of respect following the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday, Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A has confirmed the postponement of all scheduled Serie A and Primavera 1 fixtures.

The date for the rearranged matches will be announced at a later time.

Pope Francis, the first non-European pope in nearly 1,300 years, passed away at the age of 88.

His death, announced by the Vatican on Monday morning, was met with a wave of grief across Italy, especially on Easter Monday, a national holiday when many Italians traditionally spend time with family and friends.

The announcement of Pope Francis’ passing sent a shock through the nation, especially considering his public appearance just a day earlier, where he had participated in Easter celebrations and held a brief meeting with US Vice President JD Vance.

His death marks the beginning of a period of mourning, followed by the convening of cardinals under the age of 80, who will gather in the upcoming conclave to elect the next leader of the Catholic Church.

The process is expected to take between two and three weeks.

In light of this somber occasion, Serie A games for the day have been postponed, with plans for rescheduling to be announced in the coming days.
