England, UK – A Scottish grandmother who won millions of fans worldwide on TikTok for her playful gaming videos and candid reflections on ageing has died aged 78.
Agnes, popularly known online as EpicGamerGrandma, passed away after suffering a stroke, her family has said.
She had been receiving treatment since October after being admitted with complications linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Her death was confirmed by her grandson, Dylan King, in a post shared on Instagram on Tuesday, where he described her as living proof that “age really is just a number”.
Agnes rose to global fame from her home in Dunfermline, amassing 2.4 million followers and more than 81 million likes on TikTok.
Her content ranged from gaming clips and soundboard skits to humorous face-filter videos, earning her a devoted audience, particularly among younger users.
But alongside the light-hearted posts, Agnes also used her platform to speak openly about living with COPD — a condition that earned her the affectionate nickname “the coughing gran” — and about coping with grief following the death of her husband, George.
In a moving tribute shared online, Dylan said his grandmother’s impact extended far beyond social media.
“We are proud of the woman she was long before anyone knew her online,” he wrote. “Proud of the mum and grandma who held our family together and proud of the way she spent her later years proving that life does not end at a certain age — it only changes shape.”
He added that for most of her life, Agnes was not an influencer but “a daughter, a sister, a mum, a grandma, a neighbour and a friend”.
“She was the person who made sure everyone else was fed before she even thought of herself. She remembered birthdays, called just to check in, and quietly carried more than she ever let on. She was home.”
In the weeks leading up to her death, Dylan had kept followers updated on Agnes’ health, revealing that while she was first hospitalised due to COPD complications, she later suffered a series of strokes.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans around the world, many crediting her for challenging stereotypes about ageing and showing that joy, humour and connection can thrive at any stage of life.
