Airtel Money to Experience 12-Hour Service Disruption for System Upgrade

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Airtel Kenya has announced a planned 12-hour service disruption for Airtel Money users on May 3 and 4, 2025, as the company undertakes the final phase of a significant system upgrade.

The service interruption, which will occur from 11:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, to 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 4, will affect all Airtel Money services, including sending and receiving money, bank transfers, bill payments, and agent withdrawals.

In a statement, Airtel Kenya explained that the upgrade is designed to improve the overall customer experience and introduce new, innovative services.

This marks the second and final phase of the system upgrade, following an earlier notice issued on April 6, 2025.

The company has expressed understanding of the temporary inconvenience this may cause and has apologised to its customers.

To alleviate the impact, Airtel is offering a 100% cashback (Rudishiwa) on transaction fees, which will be credited as airtime.

This offer will apply to Bank to Airtel Money transactions, Paybill payments, and Agent Withdrawals once services resume and will remain valid until midnight on May 4, 2025.

Airtel Kenya’s upgrade is part of a broader industry trend to modernise mobile money infrastructure, ensuring faster, safer, and more versatile services for its growing user base.

The company has thanked customers for their continued support and promised a smoother, more robust Airtel Money experience post-upgrade.

This final phase follows the successful completion of the first phase of the upgrade on April 6, 2025.
