NAIROBI, Kenya- Apple Intelligence is set to become an integral part of all Apple products, offering features such as a writing assistant for refining message drafts and a smart diary to suggest optimal routes for appointments.
Unlike Microsoft’s AI assistant Copilot, users won’t have to pay extra to activate these features.
The revamped Siri, now equipped with a new interface and a more conversational approach, aims to facilitate smoother navigation across devices and apps.
Apple emphasized the security of Apple Intelligence during Monday’s keynote, with some processing carried out on the device itself while larger actions will be cloud-based but with no data storage.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, highlighted the system’s privacy features: “It draws on your personal context to give you intelligence that’s most helpful and relevant for you, and it protects your privacy at every step.”
Apple’s decision to integrate ChatGPT technology from OpenAI, though anticipated, is notable for a company known for its strict control over its products.
The partnership reflects recognition of ChatGPT’s current dominance in the AI space. Apple hinted at future integrations with other products but did not provide specifics.
Alongside the AI enhancements, Apple announced that its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, will be available in the UK on July 12, following its US release in February.
Additional new features include: sending texts via satellite, scheduling messages for later, using head gestures to control AirPods Pro, a dedicated, cross-device app for passwords, and the ability to hide or lock certain apps with Face ID or passcodes.
