Kenyan GenZs Using AI To Expose Corruption

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenyans are taking their quest to hold politicians accountable to the next level, leveraging technology in a movement that began with the protests against the Finance Bill 2024. .

Despite President William Ruto’s concession to withdraw the contentious Finance Bill 2024, Kenyans are determined to reclaim power and ensure transparency in governance.

The anti-Finance Bill protests, initially marked by chants, water bottles, and placards, have evolved into a tech-driven anti-government movement.

Kenyan youths are determined to reclaim power and ensure transparency in governance, echoing the sentiment of Greta Thunberg , who emphasized, “The real power belongs to the people.”

This shift has led to an unprecedented revolution across the country. One notable development is the creation of an AI platform by a Kenyan known as BenwithSon on X (formerly Twitter).

This platform provides detailed information on past corruption scandals involving politicians and government officials.

The platform allows users to query the name of a politician and access a chronological list of corruption scandals, complete with case details and outcomes.

It also reveals whether the politician was prosecuted or cleared of graft allegations, citing sources for each case.

Users can contribute by identifying any missing information, enhancing the platform’s accuracy.

This isn’t the first time Kenyans have used AI to demystify government policies.

Marion Kavengi created the SHIF GPT, which explains the details of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

These AI tools are empowering citizens to understand and critique government policies, making governance more transparent and accessible.

By utilizing AI, Kenyans are taking significant steps toward ensuring accountability and fostering a more informed populace.

The integration of AI into political activism marks a new era for Kenyan citizens.

As these tools gain popularity, they not only provide crucial information but also encourage civic engagement.

The ability to access detailed information on corruption scandals and complex government policies empowers citizens to demand better governance and accountability.

As Kenyans continue to innovate and leverage technology, the movement for transparency and accountability is set to grow stronger.

The hope is that these tools will inspire more citizens to participate in governance and hold their leaders accountable, ensuring a brighter future for the nation.
