Nairobi, Kenya- Kisumu County has taken a significant leap towards modernizing its operations by installing a biometric time attendance and access control system.
This innovative move, in partnership with Smart Applications International Limited, aims to streamline workforce management and enhance the security of County assets and facilities.
In a bid to improve operational efficiency, the County Government of Kisumu now requires all its employees to clock in and out using the new biometric system.
This initiative ensures precise tracking of attendance and service delivery, marking a departure from traditional manual systems.
Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o, speaking at the launch, highlighted the importance of this public-private partnership in boosting efficiency in the public sector.
“By leveraging the expertise and resources of our partners, we can derive significant improvements in our operations,” he said.
Judith Oluoch, the Executive Committee Member for Public Service, Administration, and Participatory Development, praised the partnership with Smart Applications International.
She emphasized that the new system simplifies timesheet management, working hours calculation, and attendance data collection. “The system will enhance the overall security of county premises by limiting access and providing a secure environment for staff to meet their targets,” she added.
This approach not only boosts security but also ensures compliance with regulations and ethical standards.
The County Government of Kisumu has already made strides in integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) into its operations.
Automated health services and revenue collection systems have shown positive results, demonstrating the potential of ICT in public service. To further promote the use of ICT, the County Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA) and a private consortium to enhance the 5G network in the area.
