KIAMBU, Kenya – At least 13 police officers, a National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer, and a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) warden are in hot water after they were today, Thursday, February 20, 2025, charged at a Kiambu High Court with the murder of two Indians and a Kenyan.
Peter Muthee Gachiko, a chief inspector of police; James Kibosek (inspector of police), Joseph Kamau Mbugua, David Chepchieng, Joseph Mwenda, John Mwangi, and Hillary Limo (corporal); Stephen Luseno, Simon Muhuga, Paul Njogu, Boniface Otieno, Elkana Njeru, and Fredrick Thuku (constables) were charged alongside John Wanjiku Macharia (NIS) and Michael Kiplangat (KWS) with the murder of Indian nationals Mohammed Zaid Sami Kidwali and Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, plus Nicodemus Mwania Mwange, a Kenyan.
The court heard that on the night of July 22 and 23, 2022, near Ole Sereni Hotel along Mombasa Road within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before the court, the accused abducted and killed the three aforementioned persons.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges before Lady Justice Abigael Mshila in a case prosecuted by Everlyn Onunga, Augustine Gacharia, Victor Owiti, Allen Mulama, Benjamin Kelwon, and Kennedy Amwayi.

The officers were actively serving in the various security agencies at the same time with the police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) under the now-disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) wing.
The case will be mentioned on March 20, 2025, for directions, including a ruling date on the bail/bond application.
Elsewhere, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has opposed the temporary release of Juja lawmaker George Koimburi.
In an application filed at a Kiambu court supported by an affidavit from an inspector of police attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Serious Crime Unit, the DPP argued that the lawmaker was initially charged with forging academic certificates and absconded court on six occasions.

Further, the prosecution stated that there is a real likelihood that the accused person will abscond from the court.
“To ensure the ends of justice are met in this case, it is the prosecution’s view that the accused person be denied bond in the first instance,” explained Onunga.
The lawmaker was on Wednesday slapped with six charges, including forging academic certificates and uttering false documents.
Justice Mwanamkuu Mwakwambirwa will rule on February 25, 2025, whether the legislator will be granted bail or not.
