NAIROBI, Kenya — The Affordable Housing Board has cautioned members of the public against engaging with an unauthorised firm allegedly purporting to offer housing units under the government-backed affordable housing programme.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the board flagged activities linked to Brightwood Apartments Company, which it said had been presenting itself as a facilitator of housing units under the initiative.
“It has come to our attention that Brightwood Apartments Company is reportedly facilitating affordable housing units on behalf of the Affordable Housing Board and the Boma Yangu Affordable Housing Program,” the statement read.
The board clarified that the firm has no official mandate to operate under the programme and urged Kenyans to exercise caution to avoid falling victim to potential fraud.
“Kindly note that the said company is not authorized to facilitate or offer housing units under the program. Members of the public are therefore advised not to make any payments or share personal information in response to such claims,” the board warned.
It further dismissed any promotional materials or communications linking the company to the programme as false and misleading, stressing that only officially recognised channels should be used for registration and transactions.
The government’s affordable housing initiative, commonly referred to as the Boma Yangu Affordable Housing Programme, is a flagship project aimed at expanding access to home ownership through structured savings and subsidised housing units.
The warning comes amid heightened public interest in the programme and increased demand for housing, factors that have in the past exposed prospective homeowners to fraudulent schemes.
Separately, the board provided an update on the progress of the Eldoret Railway City Affordable Housing Project, indicating that construction is advancing steadily.
According to the board, the project is expected to deliver 2,180 housing units across 15 residential blocks, catering to a mix of social, affordable, and market-rate segments.
“The development will comprise a mix of social, affordable, and market-rate units, significantly expanding access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans,” the statement said.
In addition to residential units, the project will include commercial spaces aimed at supporting business activity within the estate, as well as key social amenities designed to enhance the quality of life for residents.

These include an Early Childhood Development centre, a dispensary and a police post, alongside recreational facilities such as a basketball court, clubhouse and swimming pool.
The board said the integrated design is intended to create a self-sustaining community that meets both housing and lifestyle needs.
It encouraged interested Kenyans to register through official platforms under the Boma Yangu programme and begin saving towards home ownership, reiterating the need to verify all information to avoid fraudulent intermediaries.
