Approval Hearings for Cabinet Nominees Slated for January 14

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- January is shaping up to be a crucial month in Kenya’s political calendar as the National Assembly gears up to vet President William Ruto’s nominees for key Cabinet Secretary positions.

The approval hearings, scheduled for January 14, 2025, are part of the legal process required to finalize these high-profile appointments.

The sessions, to be held at County Hall within Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, will be conducted by the Committee on Appointments.

National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge confirmed that this is part of the rigorous vetting process mandated by law, designed to ensure the nominees’ qualifications align with their designated roles.

In a move aimed at promoting transparency, the National Assembly has invited the public to weigh in on the nominees’ suitability.

Submissions must adhere to specific guidelines, including being presented as sworn affidavits supported by evidence.

The vetting process doesn’t stop at Cabinet Secretary nominees. Starting January 9, 2025, departmental committees will also conduct approval hearings for other significant appointments, including ambassadors, high commissioners, and members of the Public Service Commission.

These sessions aim to evaluate whether all nominees meet the required professional and ethical standards.Nominees appearing before the committees are expected to present original identity cards, academic certificates, and compliance documents from institutions like the KRA, EACC, and the DCI, among others.
