Body of Man Who Drowned in Limunga Dam Retrieved by Red Cross Divers

Date:

NYAHURURU, Kenya — Red Cross divers have recovered the body of Mbugua Kiarie, a 41-year-old father of six, who drowned in Limunga Dam in Nyahururu Sub-County, Laikipia County.

According to officials, the recovery operation was conducted on Thursday morning following a day-long search after Kiarie reportedly slipped and fell into the dam while fetching water.

Laikipia County Red Cross Coordinator confirmed that the body was retrieved and handed over to the police for transfer to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Local residents said Kiarie was well known in the area and had been drawing water for domestic use before the tragic accident occurred.

Authorities have since cautioned residents against accessing unsafe sections of the dam, especially during the ongoing rains, which have raised water levels and made the area slippery.

Police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
