NAIROBI, Kenya – Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced the reshuffling of 33 High Court judges across various stations in Kenya.

The changes were confirmed by High Court Principal Judge Eric Ogola, who communicated the reshuffle in a notice to the judiciary.

“Greetings from the Office of the Principal Judge. This is to bring to your notice that the Hon. Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya and President of the Supreme Court has effected the transfers,” said Ogola in his statement.

The reshuffle includes key relocations and elevations, reflecting the judiciary’s ongoing efforts to ensure equitable distribution of judicial expertise across the country.

Key Transfers Include:

1. Justice Alfred Mabeya moves from the Commercial and Tax Division in Nairobi to Kisumu as the principal judge.

2. Lady Justice Roselyne Aburili transitions from Kisumu to the Judicial Review Division in Nairobi, assuming the role of principal judge.

3. Justice Edward Muriithi is transferred from Meru to Kerugoya as the principal judge.

4. Lady Justice Cecilia Githua remains in Murang’a but receives an elevation to principal judge.

Other notable transfers feature Lady Justice Christine Meoli moving from the Civil Division in Nairobi to Kajiado, and Justice Charles Kariuki relocating from Nyandarua to Narok, both as principal judges.

The reshuffle also includes several strategic elevations within the judicial system.

For instance, Lady Justice Mugure Thande, while remaining in Malindi, takes on the role of principal judge, reflecting a recognition of her contributions to the judiciary.

Justice James Wakiaga’s move from Murang’a to the Criminal Division in Nairobi as the principal judge highlights the judiciary’s focus on strengthening its criminal justice system in the capital.

This reshuffle is part of Chief Justice Koome’s broader strategy to improve judicial services and accessibility.

By redistributing judicial expertise, the Chief Justice aims to address workload imbalances and enhance the efficiency of the judicial process across Kenya.
