MOMBASA, Kenya — A Tesla Cybertruck has made its first-ever appearance in Kenya after being spotted cruising through Mombasa, drawing crowds and triggering a social media frenzy.
Videos of the futuristic stainless-steel electric pickup charging at City Mall Nyali quickly went viral, with Kenyans stopping to take photos and speculate about how the rare vehicle ended up in the country.
The Cybertruck belongs to Berni and Alex, members of the global expedition team CyberLocos, who are attempting a Guinness World Records drive across multiple continents using the electric truck.
In a statement on January 13, 2026, CyberLocos confirmed they are currently travelling through Kenya as part of their Africa leg.
“We are crossing the African continent, starting with Kenya,” the duo said.
The pair said their journey has already taken them through the United States, South America, Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, with Africa now forming the next stage of their round-the-world adventure.
The expedition is aimed at showcasing the Cybertruck’s durability, range and off-road capability, while giving people across the globe a chance to see and interact with the futuristic electric vehicle.
Tesla officially launched the Cybertruck in late 2023, featuring a sharp, angular design made from 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, the same material used in SpaceX rockets.
Depending on the model, the Cybertruck costs between Sh9.8 million and Sh16 million, delivers up to 845 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, and offers a driving range of up to 550 kilometres per charge.

The CyberLocos say their African journey is designed to prove that electric vehicles can handle extreme terrain while supporting the global shift toward clean energy.
