This revelation follows thorough investigations after Muchiri’s body was found on January 3, 2024.
Muchiri had been listed as a missing person before his body was discovered by the roadside in the Milimani Kawaida area of Banana, Kiambaa, Kiambu County.
The police initially classified the case as an abduction. However, further inquiries revealed a different narrative.
According to the DCI, Muchiri, alongside several accomplices, had scaled the perimeter wall of a nearby rental property intending to commit theft.
“Witnesses reported hearing them walking on the iron sheet roof and tampering with the Wi-Fi network receiver installed there. Upon noticing the intruders, residents raised the alarm, prompting the suspects to flee by jumping off the roof in different directions,” the DCI statement read.
Tragically, Muchiri was caught by a group of residents about 20 meters from the property and subjected to mob justice.
The investigation confirmed that the residents had been victims of numerous break-ins and burglaries, possibly contributing to their drastic response.
Muchiri’s body has been transferred to the Kihara Level IV Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is pending.
This case emerges amid increasing concerns over abductions across the country.
