NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has appointed former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa as the new non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board.
The appointment, announced in a Gazette notice dated January 17, will see Jumwa serve a three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Roads Board Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Aisha Jumwa Katana to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the January 17, 2025,” the notice read.
This appointment marks Jumwa’s return to a significant public role after her removal from the Cabinet in July 2024 amid a Cabinet reshuffle spurred by the Gen Z anti-government protests.
Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed, the previous chair, has been relieved of his duties.
Jumwa, a former Malindi MP, initially joined Ruto’s Cabinet as the Gender CS but was excluded in the reshuffle that saw a significant overhaul of the President’s team.
Despite her departure, Ruto had publicly assured her of a continued role in his administration.
Jumwa’s political journey began as a youth winger in the KANU party, later serving as a Takaunga ward councillor and chairperson of Kilifi Town Council.
She made history in 2013 as Kilifi’s first Woman Representative under the ODM party and later served as Malindi MP from 2017 to 2022.
In her parliamentary career, Jumwa contributed significantly to the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and the Parliamentary Service Commission.
