DIANI, Kenya — A coordinated multi-agency operation in Diani led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker and the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics, authorities said on Friday.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that detectives, acting on intelligence, first recovered two green gunny bags containing rolls of cannabis.
The suspect, identified as Hellen Saru Mwajombo, 36, then directed officers to her nearby residence, where a larger cache of narcotics was found.
A thorough search of the property yielded multiple packages of cannabis, including a black bag and another green gunny bag. Investigators also impounded a white Nissan Note, registration number KDS 092K, believed to have been used in drug trafficking operations.
The DCI emphasized that the arrest forms part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics across the country. “We remain firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration,” the agency said in a statement.
“With zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, we will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all.”
The latest operation is expected to disrupt local distribution networks and serve as a warning to other traffickers.
The DCI said further investigations are ongoing and more arrests could follow as authorities trace the source and distribution channels of the seized narcotics.
