FIDA Demands Justice in Alliance Girls’ Sexual Abuse Scandal

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has condemned the alleged sexual abuse of students at Alliance Girls High School, calling for urgent action and accountability.

The allegations, first published in Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, accuse a teacher and Christian Union patron at the prestigious girls’ school of prolonged sexual misconduct.

In a statement issued on Monday, FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu described the revelations as both “shocking and heartbreaking.”

“We are appalled that someone entrusted to guide and mentor students could instead use that position to harm them,” said Kungu. “These young women have shown tremendous courage by speaking up, and we stand with them.”

The legal rights organization says the survivors’ testimonies point to a pattern of systemic neglect, raising serious questions about the school’s internal safeguarding mechanisms.

“What we are hearing is not just individual abuse, but an institutional failure to protect,” Kungu said. “That is not just unacceptable — it is dangerous.”

FIDA-Kenya stressed that the abuse allegedly occurred in one of the country’s most respected public schools, making the case particularly alarming.

“Schools should be safe spaces — not environments where abuse is enabled or overlooked,” Kungu added.

The organization has offered legal and psychosocial support to the affected students and encouraged other survivors to come forward.

It has also opened communication channels through its toll-free line 0800 720 501 and email info@fidakenya.org.

Call for Immediate Action

FIDA is calling on the Board of Management at Alliance Girls to launch a transparent investigation into the allegations and for the Ministry of Education to take swift disciplinary and legal action against any individual who enabled the abuse.

“The school must be held accountable. The Ministry must lead from the front to ensure such abuse is never repeated,” said Kungu.

Additionally, FIDA is pushing for broader policy changes across all learning institutions — including mandatory training for teachers on how to identify and respond to abuse, the implementation of gender-based violence (GBV) policies, and the establishment of safe, anonymous reporting systems for students.

“Justice delayed is justice denied,” said Kungu. “We must protect our children — not tomorrow, but now.”
