NYERI, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that Central Kenya must pledge full support to President William Ruto to receive government development projects.
Speaking in a televised interview on Sunday from his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua insisted that development should be distributed equitably across the country without political conditions.
“We heard one of the leaders saying that if Central Kenya doesn’t fully support the President, we will not get development,” Gachagua said. “But we pay taxes. We don’t have to worship anyone to get development.”
His remarks come amid heightened political discourse over Ruto’s recent development tours across the country.
This week, the President visited the Northeastern region, where he launched several projects in Garissa County.
One of the key highlights of Ruto’s tour was the official reopening of the Garissa Passport Application Centre.
The facility, which had been shut down for a decade following a surge in terror attacks in 2014, is now the 10th decentralised passport centre in Kenya.
It will serve residents of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, and Kitui counties.
