Gloria Orwoba Officially Out of Senate as IEBC Names Consolata Nabwire

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has officially lost her seat in the Senate following her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

In a gazette notice dated August 15, 2025, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon announced Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi as Orwoba’s replacement.

Wakwabubi has now been formally recognized as UDA’s new nominated senator.

Orwoba, who was nominated to the Senate by UDA, was expelled in May after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) found her guilty of gross misconduct and violating the party’s constitution.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said then that the decision followed recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee, which accused Orwoba of making public statements that tarnished the party’s image and failing to respond to multiple summonses.

“After a comprehensive review of the Disciplinary Committee’s report and in line with Article 29 of the UDA Constitution, the NEC found Senator Orwoba’s actions incompatible with the values and objectives of the party,” Omar said in a May 19 statement.

The disciplinary process faulted Orwoba for declining to personally appear before the committee, choosing instead to respond through her lawyers — a move the party said undermined internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

On May 21, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi declared her seat vacant, paving the way for IEBC to formally replace her.

The gazettement now brings the months-long process to a close, cementing Wakwabubi’s entry into the Upper House as Orwoba bows out of parliamentary politics.
