NYANDARUA, Kenya – Health officials have confirmed three cases of the Mpox viral disease in Nyandarua County, sparking a joint response from local health authorities.
One patient is admitted at Engineer Level Four Hospital, while a couple from Ndaragwa is receiving treatment in an isolation ward at Nyahururu County Hospital.
Laikipia County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, Wagura Taiti, said the couple’s two children are under medical surveillance despite testing negative in initial screening.
“They remain under close monitoring as a precautionary measure,” she said.
Health teams from both Nyandarua and Laikipia have been mobilised to manage the outbreak. Contact tracing has been completed, with two relatives of the couple placed under home quarantine.
Taiti clarified that Laikipia County has not recorded any Mpox cases. The couple was referred to Nyahururu County Hospital, she explained, because it is the nearest facility equipped to handle such infections.
Mpox, a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person, has seen sporadic outbreaks globally in recent years.
Kenyan health authorities continue to urge vigilance and immediate medical attention for individuals presenting with symptoms such as fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
