IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein expressed the Commission’s outrage and grief over the tragic incident during a statement on Monday.
“The Commission is deeply concerned by this horrendous incident and condemns the perpetrators behind Ms Aisha’s death. As we condole with the family of Ms Aisha, we call on the country’s security agencies to speedily investigate this heinous occurrence and apprehend her killers,” Hussein said.
The 48-year-old Aisha Akinyi Abubakar and her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan, were attacked at their home around 3 a.m. by two intruders.
The assailants, armed with a crowbar and knife, cut through the kitchen window grills to gain access.
Tragically, Aisha was fatally wounded, while her son sustained serious injuries.
Aisha’s son managed to drive her to Premier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Khasim was admitted and is receiving treatment for head injuries inflicted during the attack.
The attackers stole electronic devices, including a 65-inch TV, a sound system, an iPad, and Aisha’s mobile phone, before fleeing the scene.
One of the intruders reportedly wore a face mask.
The police were alerted to the crime by Premier Hospital officials and have since launched an investigation, visiting the crime scene and following several leads to track down the suspects.
Marjan Hussein reassured Aisha’s family and friends of the IEBC’s unwavering support during this difficult time.
“The IEBC fraternity is saddened by her death and expresses its deepest condolences to Ms Aisha’s family, friends and colleagues for the tragic loss. The IEBC assures the family and friends that it will journey with them during this period of profound sorrow.”
