NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the National Police Service (NPS), emphasizing its critical role in fostering economic growth and social cohesion.
In a statement shared on X Murkomen said, “A safe and orderly society is the foundation upon which economic growth and social cohesion can thrive. We shall, therefore, continue strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of our National Police Service.”
The CS hosted a roundtable meeting with development partners, private sector players, and senior government officials, including Internal Security and National Administration PS Raymond Omollo and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
The discussions focused on implementing the National Task Force on Police Reforms and the NPS Strategic Plan (2023-2027).
These initiatives aim to make the police service more people-centered and effective in addressing crime.
Murkomen outlined key aspects of the ongoing transformation of the police service:
- Continuous Training: Equipping officers with the skills to respond to evolving security challenges.
- Welfare Improvement: Enhancing the living and working conditions of police officers.
- Digitization: Modernizing operations to improve efficiency and accountability.
- Equipment and Infrastructure: Providing modern tools and facilities to support law enforcement.
The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, development partners, and private sector stakeholders in advancing these reforms.
National Assembly Chair for National Administration and Internal Security Gabriel Tongoyo also attended the meeting, reflecting the government’s commitment to a multi-stakeholder approach.
Murkomen concluded by affirming that the transformation of the police service is vital for ensuring a secure environment conducive to Kenya’s development.
