NAIROBI, Kenya—President William Ruto has lauded at least five counties that have recorded the highest number of Kenyans registered on Taifa Care.
President Ruto listed Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Bomet, Embu, and Lamu counties.
“These are the five leading counties so far in Taifa care registration,” said President Ruto.
What is Taifa Care
Taifa Care is part of the ruling Kenya Kwanza government’s initiative to roll out universal health coverage and ensure equity in healthcare.
The program is designed to enhance the population’s access to healthcare services, and authorities have been encouraging public registration to streamline this access.
At the same time, President Ruto encouraged residents of Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, West Pokot, and Turkana counties to mobilise, register, and take advantage of the benefits of the transformative programme.
“Under Taifa Care, our inclusive, universal, efficient, and transparent healthcare service model, we are implementing a transition on an unprecedented scale. We have successfully transitioned 5.6 million citizens from the National Health Insurance Fund and registered 11 million Kenyans under the Social Health Insurance Fund,” added the head of state.
How Taifa Care is streamlining the Kenyan healthcare sector
President Ruto reiterated that this means that, in just two months, 11 million Kenyans who previously lacked access to healthcare services are now registered, with the registration process going full steam in every part of Kenya.
“Taifa Care ensures healthcare access for all registered citizens without discrimination,” said President Ruto.
The head of state who spoke during this year’s Jamhuri Day national celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi City County said the program has accurately determined the cost of each healthcare service and product, ring-fenced resources for equipment and facility improvements, and leveraged digital technology to radically enhance the management, coordination, and delivery of healthcare, promoting efficiency, transparency, inclusivity, and sustainability.
“No public service delivery project of this scale and ambition has ever been undertaken in the history of our country. We are confident that we will quickly surpass the 16.5 million registered citizens so far and provide all Kenyans with high-quality healthcare that is efficient, effective, affordable, and sustainable healthcare,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Ruto encouraged every Kenyan to register and enjoy the fundamental constitutional right to healthcare.
