KIRINYAGA, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced a new political partnership with Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, signaling a potential shift in the Mount Kenya region’s political dynamics.
Speaking after a meeting at Karua’s rural home in Kirinyaga on Saturday, Gachagua expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting Karua’s vast experience and unwavering commitment to accountability and progress.
“We have had a good conversation with Karua, and we have agreed that going forward, we are going to work together with other Kenyans,” Gachagua said.
“I want to assure you that many Kenyans are looking for leadership. We will work together with like-minded Kenyans, patriots, and people who care for this country.”
Gachagua emphasized that Karua’s courage and political acumen would play a critical role in advancing the region’s agenda.
“We shall benefit a lot from her counsel. We will consult her regularly alongside other Kenyans of goodwill so that we liberate this country,” he added.
The meeting, which marked Gachagua’s first major engagement with Karua since his impeachment, was also attended by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
It comes at a pivotal moment for Karua’s Narc Kenya Party, which has been rebranding after its recent departure from the Azimio coalition.
Karua, who was Gachagua’s vocal critic ahead of the 2022 general election as Raila Odinga’s running mate, struck a conciliatory tone, expressing confidence in the new alliance.
“Today is a great day. We have joined hands with my brother Gachagua, and a journey of uniting and liberating Kenya has begun,” Karua said. “We are going to join with people from different regions and areas in the country.”
The two leaders signaled their shared commitment to championing accountability and uniting Kenyans, positioning themselves as a formidable team ahead of potential future political undertakings.
