KENHA Issues Travel Advisory Ahead of Christmas Festivities

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a festive season travel advisory warning motorists of increased traffic volumes on roads and highways across the country as the December holiday period peaks.

In a public notice dated December 21, 2025, the authority said traffic has already begun to build up on major routes and urged road users to exercise patience, courtesy, and caution to enhance safety during the festive season.

KeNHA reminded motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility and called on all road users to comply strictly with traffic rules and regulations.

To minimise congestion and delays, motorists were advised to plan their journeys in advance, allowing adequate travel time, and to use alternative routes where available.

The authority also urged drivers to observe posted speed limits and avoid speeding, which remains a leading cause of road crashes.

Drivers were further cautioned to obey traffic signs, maintain lane discipline, and avoid overlapping and reckless overtaking.

Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators and drivers were reminded to adhere to approved passenger capacity limits, observe designated pick-up and drop-off points, and remain within their assigned routes.

“All drivers should be well-rested before embarking on their journeys and remain sober and fit to drive at all times,” the authority said.

KeNHA said it remains committed to ensuring a safe, smooth, and secure travel experience throughout the festive period, enabling Kenyans to reunite with their families and loved ones without incident.

The advisory comes amid heightened traffic enforcement by road safety agencies during the holidays, with authorities cracking down on speeding, drunk driving, and vehicle non-compliance.

KeNHA wished all road users safe and pleasant travels during the festive season, and extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Kenyans.

The notice was signed by Eng. Luka Kimeli, Acting Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority.
