NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya and Oman have reaffirmed their long-standing and cordial relations, highlighting opportunities for strengthened trade, investment, and strategic cooperation.
Deputy Director General of the State Department for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Lindsay Kiptiness, NDC (K), received H.E. Amb. Nasra Salim Mohamed Al-Hashmi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Kenya, on a courtesy call. The discussions focused on shared history, geographic ties, and Indian Ocean cooperation.
The meeting reviewed progress on several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements outlined during the inaugural round of Political Consultations held in Oman in 2025.
Both sides noted steady advancement in concluding instruments covering labour, agriculture and livestock, investment promotion and protection, avoidance of double taxation, air services, and ports cooperation.
Amb. Al-Hashmi highlighted the growing demand in Oman for Kenyan fresh produce, including mangoes, avocados, potatoes, dried lime, passion fruit, and macadamia nuts. He encouraged Kenyan farmers to leverage these emerging market opportunities.
Both envoys emphasized the importance of concluding a phytosanitary agreement to facilitate the smooth export of fresh produce.
On labour matters, the discussions addressed the plight of several Kenyan nationals stranded in Oman after being defrauded by unlicensed employment agents in Kenya. The Omani Ambassador clarified that Oman does not issue tourist visas for employment and urged job seekers to use official, approved channels.

Looking ahead, the two countries identified clean energy as a key sector for strategic collaboration, reflecting shared national development visions. The dialogue underscored a commitment to sustained engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple sectors.
