Pastors Condemn Demolition of Governor Wamatangi’s Property in Nairobi

Date:

KIAMBU, Kenya — Religious leaders in Kiambu County have condemned the recent police-guarded demolition of properties linked to Governor Kimani Wamatangi near Nyayo Stadium, calling for respect for property rights and legal transparency.

The Kiambu Clergy Pastors Forum, through General Secretary Prince Eliud, denounced the overnight operation, which razed businesses, car wash facilities, and restaurants.

“The demolition of properties, especially without prior notice, is unacceptable and undermines trust between authorities and citizens,” Eliud said.

Authorities have indicated that the demolitions aim to make way for a new train station connecting Nairobi CBD with Nyayo and the upcoming Talanta Stadium.

However, the operation’s timing—conducted in the early hours—has drawn widespread criticism from business owners and community leaders.

“I have lost over Sh4 million after the demolition. I was not notified and received a call at 3 a.m. that the operation was ongoing,” one affected business owner said.

The incident follows previous tensions in the county, including the vandalism of a new ECDE classroom at St. Francis Primary School in Gatundu North in November 2025 and a shooting near the governor’s residence in December 2025.

Investigations into the demolitions and the earlier school attack are ongoing, with residents and religious leaders urging authorities to clarify the legal and administrative basis for the operations.
