Kindiki Chairs IBEC Meeting to Tackle Fiscal Coordination and Development Plans

NAIROBI, Kenya – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Friday chaired the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meeting at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, bringing together key national and county leaders to discuss economic and fiscal management.

The high-level session drew prominent government officials, including Cabinet Secretaries Alice Wahome (Lands), John Mbadi (Treasury), and Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), alongside Governors Stephen Sang (Nandi) and Issa Timamy (Lamu).

The meeting underscored ongoing collaboration between the national and county governments to address shared fiscal priorities and economic challenges.

IBEC serves as a crucial platform for aligning policies and legislation on financial management, debt control, and integrated economic development across all levels of government.

The council, which the Deputy President chairs, also discusses fiscal regulations and other matters of national importance as agreed upon by its members.

Friday’s meeting highlighted the role of IBEC in enhancing economic coordination, particularly as counties continue to implement key development projects amid fiscal pressures.

It also marked a renewed push to streamline borrowing and debt management policies, which have been central to balancing economic growth with fiscal sustainability.

The Deputy President emphasized the importance of IBEC as a collaborative forum to foster dialogue and accountability between county and national governments, ensuring alignment in resource allocation and development priorities.
