KURA Announces Long-Term Closure of Links Road in Mombasa

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya – The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a six-month closure of a section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa County, to facilitate major drainage upgrades aimed at tackling persistent flooding in the area.

The closure will take effect from Friday, August 1, 2025, and is expected to last until Friday, January 30, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, KURA said the construction works are part of broader efforts to improve road safety and resilience in flood-prone areas.

The authority urged motorists to follow designated alternative routes and adhere to traffic signage throughout the construction period.

“To ensure smooth traffic flow, police officers and traffic marshals will be stationed at key junctions to guide road users,” the agency said.

Links Road, a major artery in Mombasa’s Nyali suburb, frequently experiences disruption during heavy rains due to poor drainage.

KURA apologised for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to building safer, more sustainable road infrastructure in urban areas.

The agency manages an urban road network of over 4,600 kilometres across Kenya’s towns and cities, excluding national highways.
