NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Senior Economic Adviser Moses Kuria has called for a thorough investigation into the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a visionary leader whose passing has left a void in Kenya’s political landscape.
Speaking at Jirongo’s memorial service held on December 27, 2025, at CITAM Valley Road, Kuria insisted that the circumstances surrounding the fatal road accident on December 13 must be fully examined.
“The truth must be established beyond doubt,” he said, backing calls for an inquiry into the Naivasha crash.
Symbolic Gesture
In a nod to traditional Tiriki burial rites, which are meant to uncover the cause of death, Kuria offered to purchase the torch that will be placed in Jirongo’s casket.
Kuria described Jirongo as a “big thinker” and a “relentless go-getter” who never compromised his vision or lowered his standards, even in difficult times. He praised the late politician’s resilience and commitment to his ideals.
Longstanding Relationship
Reflecting on their professional history, Kuria recalled how Jirongo inspired a generation of student activists during Kenya’s transition to multiparty democracy in the 1990s.
He said Jirongo’s influence extended beyond politics, shaping the values of many young leaders.
Kuria urged fellow politicians to embrace unity and mutual support. “We must be each other’s brother’s keeper,” he said, stressing the importance of solidarity within the political class.
Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a head-on collision in Naivasha on December 13, will be laid to rest on December 30 at his family home in Lumakanda.
