KUTRRH Disowns Bribery Claims in Recruitment, Launches Internal Probe

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) has distanced itself from allegations that job seekers are required to pay bribes to secure employment at the facility, warning the public against fraudsters exploiting its name.

In a notice issued on February 4, 2026, the hospital said it was aware of statements circulating in the public domain alleging requests for payment in connection with employment opportunities at the State-owned referral hospital.

“KUTRRH clarifies that it does not charge, request, authorize, or approve any form of payment or inducement in relation to recruitment or employment,” the hospital said in the statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Dr Zainab Gura ‘ndc’ K.

The hospital stressed that all recruitment processes are conducted strictly in line with applicable laws, public service regulations, and established institutional policies.

Following the claims, KUTRRH said it has initiated internal review processes to assess the issues raised. The hospital noted that if any conduct inconsistent with policy or the law is established, appropriate administrative and legal action will be taken in accordance with due process.

“Where necessary, this will include engagement with relevant authorities,” the statement added, signalling possible referrals to investigative agencies should wrongdoing be uncovered.

The notice comes amid growing public concern over recruitment scams affecting job seekers across public institutions, with fraudsters increasingly using forged letters, unofficial intermediaries, and social media platforms to demand payments in exchange for employment.

KUTRRH advised members of the public to exercise caution and to engage only through the hospital’s official recruitment channels. It urged anyone with information relating to suspected misconduct or misrepresentation to report the matter through its official reporting platforms, including its website and the Office of the Chief Executive Officer.

According to the hospital, reports may be submitted via its official corruption reporting portal at www.kutrrh.go.ke/report-corruption/ or escalated to relevant authorities for further action.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has previously warned that soliciting or paying bribes in public recruitment processes constitutes an offence under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act (ACECA), punishable by fines and imprisonment.

While KUTRRH did not indicate the scale or source of the allegations, its leadership reiterated the hospital’s commitment to ethical governance and accountability.

“KUTRRH remains committed to lawful, transparent, and ethical governance and will continue to cooperate with any lawful inquiries,” the statement said.
