Mothers Lead #EndAbductionsKE Protests in Nairobi

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Mothers gathered on Kimathi Street in Nairobi today, singing songs of freedom in a powerful demonstration against the rising tide of enforced disappearances.

The #EndAbductionsKE protest, spearheaded by mothers and families of the disappeared, brought together activists, politicians, and professionals to demand justice and an end to politically motivated abductions.

The protests, which spread across major towns, spotlight the growing concern over the alleged involvement of state agents in these abductions.

The victims are primarily young critics of President William Ruto’s administration, sparking fears of a crackdown on dissent.

Despite mounting international pressure from the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom, as well as appeals from religious leaders, the Kenyan government has remained unyielding.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, and COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli are some of the leaders who have either downplayed or outright dismissed the reports of abductions.

Mothers, along with activists and political leaders, vow to continue their protests until justice is served and the disappearances cease.
