NAIROBI, Kenya – The Ministry of Health has reported an increase in Mpox cases, with the total rising to 33.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muriuki provided an update on Friday, confirming two additional infections in Kericho and Taita Taveta counties.
“This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 33 since the outbreak began,” Muriuki stated.
The infections are spread across 12 counties, with Nakuru reporting the highest number at 10 cases.

Mombasa follows with 8 cases, while Nairobi, Kajiado, Bungoma, Taita Taveta, and Kericho each have 2 cases.
Busia, Makueni, Kilifi, Kiambu, and Uasin Gishu have reported one case each.
Efforts to track and monitor potential spread have identified 225 contacts.
Of these, 216 have been monitored for the recommended 21-day period, with nine contacts testing positive for Mpox.
The Ministry urges vigilance and adherence to public health guidelines to contain the outbreak.
