SHANZU, Kenya – A personal assistant to a Member of Parliament from the Coast region has been remanded at Shimo la Tewa Prison after being charged in a land fraud case involving a contested three-acre parcel in Kilifi South.

Victor Katana Mganga was arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts on Wednesday, facing two charges—malicious damage to property and conspiracy to commit a felony. He pleaded not guilty to both.

According to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Katana is accused of unlawfully seizing the land, which had been subdivided into three one-acre plots, and demolishing a perimeter wall erected by the rightful owner.

The incident dates back to June 2024 and sparked a months-long investigation by Kilifi South detectives.

Police described Katana as a “notorious suspect” in land-related crimes.

Following what authorities termed a “painstaking” inquiry, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved charges against him.

Appearing before Shanzu Chief Magistrate’s Court, Katana was ordered to remain in custody until June 11, 2025, pending the completion of a pre-bail report.

The case highlights growing concerns over land fraud at the Coast, where land disputes have become increasingly common, often involving politically connected individuals.
