Murkomen Plays Down Gachagua’s Homecoming, Cautions Against Disorder

Date:

MURANG’A, Kenya – Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed the heightened political buzz over the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is expected back in the country on Thursday after several weeks in the United States.

Speaking during his Jukwaa la Usalama tour in Murang’a County, Murkomen faulted leaders and supporters for treating Gachagua’s arrival as a major political spectacle, describing the hype as misplaced.

“There are so many people landing in Kenya every day, so I don’t know why we should be worried when one person is landing,” the CS told journalists.

Murkomen stressed that while Gachagua has every right to return home, security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any disruption to public order.

“The security agencies are adequately prepared to deal with any security issues,” he said, adding that the National Police Service is ready at all times to protect citizens and property.

He cautioned against attempts to incite violence during the planned reception, warning that legal action would be taken against anyone who disturbs the peace.

Meanwhile, Gachagua’s party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has called on supporters to stage a grand welcome at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala on Monday urged members of the public to gather at the airport from 8 a.m. to receive the former DP.

After his arrival, the party has lined up what it describes as the “mother of all peaceful processions” from JKIA to Nairobi’s Central Business District, culminating in a rally at Kamukunji Grounds.
