EMALI, Kenya — A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has dismantled an unlicensed brewing site in Emali Town.
The operation targeted a residential complex. Officers seized more than 5,000 litres of unregulated alcohol.
One suspect was arrested during the raid.
The operation followed a high-level security and development meeting convened by President William Ruto at State House. The meeting identified substance abuse as a growing national concern.
Speaking at the scene, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the Authority is escalating enforcement against the illicit alcohol trade.
“NACADA is leading a coordinated national response to address this issue,” Omerikwa said.
He warned that the crackdown would go beyond arrests.
“Individuals involved should know that we will pursue all legal avenues,” he said. “This includes asset recovery against those linked to illegal alcohol operations.”
Omerikwa said NACADA will now target properties suspected to have been acquired using proceeds from the illicit alcohol trade.
The raid uncovered an unlicensed bar operating inside the housing complex. Officers also identified unsafe production processes.
Officials said the alcohol was manufactured using potentially harmful substances. NACADA warned that the use of industrial ingredients in alcohol production is illegal and poses serious health risks.
“This kind of alcohol endangers lives,” the Authority said.
NACADA credited members of the public for providing intelligence that led to the successful operation. The Authority said community cooperation remains critical in tackling illegal brewing.

The raid forms part of a wider national campaign to suppress the production, distribution, and sale of illicit alcohol.
NACADA urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspected illegal alcohol activities. Reports can be made confidentially through the 24-hour tip line 1192.
The Authority said sustained enforcement and public vigilance are key to protecting public health and safety.
