National Assembly Approves Cabinet Nominations of Ruku and Wendot

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has given the green light to two key Cabinet nominees, paving the way for their formal appointment to crucial government positions.

In the Fifth Report of the Committee on Appointments, tabled in Parliament and signed by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, the House endorsed Geoffrey K. Kiringa Ruku for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo for Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage.

The recommendations were made in accordance with Article 152(2) of the Constitution, the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, and Standing Order 204(4) of the National Assembly Standing Orders.

The report was formally signed by Speaker Wetang’ula on April 15, 2025, and acknowledged by the National Assembly the same day, confirming the official nature of the approval process.

Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, a seasoned politician and former Member of Parliament, has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes.

With a background in leadership, Ruku is expected to bring strategic direction to this vital ministry, particularly in overseeing public service reforms and driving national human capital development initiatives.

His appointment aligns with the government’s broader agenda to enhance public sector performance and ensure that skills development meets the demands of the market.

Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, an advocate for women’s rights and cultural preservation, has been appointed to lead the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage.

Cheptumo’s appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to advancing gender equality and supporting Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.

As Cabinet Secretary, she will play a key role in championing policies that promote women’s empowerment and foster the creative industries.

These appointments come as part of President William Ruto’s ongoing Cabinet restructuring efforts aimed at revitalizing service delivery and enhancing the implementation of government policies.

The approval of Ruku and Cheptumo signals the administration’s intent to focus on public sector efficiency, gender inclusivity, and cultural growth.

The vetting process for both nominees involved public participation and a thorough examination of their qualifications, integrity, and suitability for the roles.

With parliamentary approval now secured, Ruku and Cheptumo are set to assume office once they are officially sworn in, marking a significant step forward in the government’s agenda for the next phase of its term.
