NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Youth Service has announced the postponement of its recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and women, originally scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2026.
The change follows a gazette notice from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration declaring March 20 a public holiday in observance of Idd-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Murkomen said the day would allow Muslims across the country to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“Friday, the 20th March, 2026, shall be a Public Holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr,” the notice stated.
The declaration means government offices, schools, and institutions such as banks will remain closed in observance of the holiday.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs while focusing on spiritual growth and discipline.
In a public notice, Evans T. Yaite, for the Commandant General, advised all prospective candidates to report to their designated recruitment centres on the revised date, Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The NYSC thanked applicants for their understanding and reaffirmed its commitment to national service.
