NAIROBI, Kenya – Residents in Nairobi, Mombasa, and several other regions across Kenya should prepare for a mix of rain and chilly temperatures this week, according to the latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its weekly update, the weatherman warned of variable weather conditions—including morning showers, cloudy intervals, and cold nights—from Tuesday through Saturday.
The forecast affects multiple regions: the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, parts of the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, and North-western Kenya.
Cold Mornings and Showers in Nairobi and Surrounding Highlands
Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley—including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Kirinyaga—are expected to experience chilly conditions with early morning rain on Tuesday, followed by mostly sunny days and intermittent afternoon and night showers throughout the week.
Night-time temperatures could plunge to 6°C, while daytime highs are projected to peak at 27°C.
Sunny Days for the South-eastern Lowlands, With Isolated Showers
In the South-eastern lowlands—covering Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta—generally sunny weather is forecast through the week.
However, scattered showers could occur on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Minimum temperatures in these areas may dip to 9°C, with daytime highs reaching up to 31°C.
Showers in Coastal Counties Early in the Week
Coastal counties including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River will receive scattered showers between Tuesday and Thursday, during both morning and afternoon hours.
The rains are expected to taper off by the weekend, giving way to drier, sunnier conditions on Friday and Saturday.
Night temperatures along the coast will range from 22°C, while daytime highs could hit 31°C.
The department has advised residents in affected regions to prepare adequately, particularly those in flood-prone areas and regions vulnerable to cold-related illnesses.
